Under 13s National Championships

ANNOUNCEMENT

The National Championships for Under 13 Teams will now be held on Saturday 21st April 2007, with further details to follow.

Due to school holidays impacting the Competition, and in the interests of the Competition, this date change has been unavoidable.

Behind the scenes working to resolve this difficulty, I would like to thank Emma Hendry (LDKA), Tony Micalef (LDKA), Anna Jeanes (EKA Competitions Officer) and Jackie Hubbard (KKA Development Officer) for their help and support.

I do hope that this additional change of date has not caused clubs too much inconvenience.

New Level 1 Korfball Coaches in Kent

On the 15th and 22nd January eighteen enthusiastic, budding KKA Korfball coaches took part in a Level 1 coaching course organised by Sarah Risby of the Medway Sports Development Team and Jackie Hubbard the KKA Development Officer.

The tutor for the course was Peter Allan who delivered the syllabus in a very informative, interesting and fun manner. Everyone enjoyed the sessions and now feel more confident in promoting the growth of Korfball in Kent both at club and county level. It was good to see so many young people prepared to give up their time to give something back to the sport.

KKA is indebted to Peter Allan for his help and assistance, which was greatly appreicated by all those attending and to Sarah Risby, of the Medway Sports Development Team.

Congratulations to the following successful candidiates:

Bearsted - Alan Beale

Kingfisher - Chris Martin, Adam Hall, Don Thornberg, Suzy Fenson, Lisa Geddes.

Tornadoes - Josh Lloyd, Lauren Officer, John Gilbert, Diane Stubbs, Richard Woodham.

Kwiek - John Haggart, Azi Sieber, Adam Smith, Lisa Falconer, Vicky Lawson, Rebecca Woolmer, Saskia de Jaeger.

National Championships for U11s – Results

Once again the National Championships for Under 11s teams proved to be one of the most hotly contested Championships.
Tornadoes 1 played exceptionally well throughout the day and moved through to the finals. The team that joins them in the finals was a much closer event with real drama.
Kingfisher and Tornadoes 2 were equal on points at the end of the pool rounds, having played against each other in a very exciting draw, also with identical goal difference, an additional period of play-off time was utilised – an excellent match and predictably a draw. Penalty shoot-out, again a draw, leading to a sudden death penalties. Finally the narrowest win 3-2 to Kingfisher. Well done to them and also to Tornadoes 2. A superb climax to an excellent days play. Third place to Tornadoes 2 and Fourth place to Kwiek.
Winners of the Penalty Shootout Competition was Tornadoes 1 with Kwiek in 2nd place.
The day’s play was at a very high level indeed, and all of the participating teams made a superb contribution. These young players were all outstanding and played with great skill, tenacity and technical ability beyond their years.
Reflecting this with the MVP awards with different names being submitted by the match referee. MVP Boy went to Ollie of Tornadoes and MVP Girl to Jess of Scorpions. Outstanding play, from both these two players throughout the day.
As ever matches can’t happen without Refs, so a big thank you to Paul, John, Azi and Kevin.
The control desk was run by a young group of players in the Under 16 age grouping, who did a superb job. Thanks to Megan, Josh, Syd and Jamie. Thanks also due to Jackie Hubbard, Alan Geddes, Eileen Denton and Richard Woodhams for supplying the equipment. The youngsters were extremely well behaved throughout the long day, the respective clubs must be very proud indeed of these young players.
